The School of Art & Design

This project redesigns the branding and signage for the School of Art and Design (SOAD) at UW-Stout. The SOAD spans across two buildings, Micheels Hall and Applied Arts, and lacks consistent and engaging signage across them. This redesign updates the logo, map, and room signage, as well as introducing a new pattern motif and directional signs.

The logomark is simplified versions of the letters SOAD. The letters themselves are the same quarter circle shape reflected and rotated. This gives them a geometric look that matches with the design aspect of the school.

In addition to the vertical version, this is the horizontal version of the logo.

Each program for the School of Art & Design receives its own symbol and color.

The primary colors were chosen to seem artsy without fully feeling childlike. Similarly, the colors for the programs transition from orange to blue to avoid the association of rainbows with children's organizations. A slightly blue grey color and dark blue are used as needed to contrast the bright colors.

The fonts used are the extended and regular versions of New Science. Where the color palette bring the artistic feel, the font helps bring the more technical aspect of design into the brand identity.
